Flowers relate to us a beautiful story of reproduction, a story of bringing something sweet and tender into this world. Whenever I come across a flower, I see them as a caring mother who gives birth to fruits. Trees can bear fruits because of flowers; rather it won’t be wrong to say that flowers bear fruit. Indeed, the celestial beauty of flowers brings life to every special occasion and event. and sometimes known as a bloom or blossoms, is the reproductive structure found in flowering plants.
For the florists, the flower shape, size and color are considered for arranging them in unique patterns. Between friends and lovers, flower names and meaning sare considered for expressing the real emotions. There are different kinds of flowers that are used as gifts or for decoration purposes. In botanical terms, flowers are the reproductive organs of angiosperms. They are also considered as a modified shoot with nodes, internodes and having a determinate growth.
A typical flower consists of four primary whorls or parts, namely, sepals (calyx), petals (corolla), stamens (androecium), and pistil (gynoecium). Calyx, usually green in color, are the outermost whorls that protect the remaining parts. Next to calyx, lies the colorful corolla, after which the stamens and pistils are placed in the innermost portion. Out of these, stamens (male gamete) and pistil (female gamete) are necessary for fertilization and/or production of seeds. Hence, they are referred to as essential whorls, while the remaining parts – sepals and petals are called nonessential or accessory whorls. Here’s a list of different flower types.
